What is the MomMirror app — and when is it appropriate?
MomMirror is a maternal wellbeing and guided self-reflection app for adults during family planning, pregnancy, postpartum and later motherhood. This page separates what the app does from what it does not do.
The short answer
MomMirror may be a self-guided companion for someone who wants brief emotional check-ins, help putting feelings into words, CBT-inspired reframing, or calming exercises. It can also help record patterns to discuss with a midwife, doctor or therapist. It must not be used to diagnose or treat depression, anxiety, infertility or pregnancy complications, and it is not an emergency service.

Diagnosis, treatment, crisis support, medication decisions, fertility predictions, assessment of a pregnancy or baby, or replacing a healthcare professional.
What the app includes
- Brief daily mood and wellbeing check-ins.
- Guided chat and CBT-inspired prompts for naming feelings and considering alternative perspectives.
- Breathing, grounding and relaxation exercises for everyday stressful moments.
- Personal history and summaries intended to make patterns easier to notice and describe.
Evidence status — stated plainly
MomMirror's clinical effectiveness has not yet been established in a peer-reviewed study. A formal study of MomMirror is planned. Therefore the app should not be described as a proven treatment or as clinically validated.
Some digital psychological interventions, including technology-based CBT, have shown benefits in research on perinatal depression or anxiety, while reviews of publicly available apps have also found limited testing and mixed results. Evidence for a class of interventions does not prove that this specific app is effective.
Privacy and data processing
The full privacy policy, not a marketing summary, governs how MomMirror handles data. In brief:
- Most journal, chat and profile data is stored locally on the device.
- Some functions use service providers, including Firebase/Google, app stores, RevenueCat and AI processing partners. Relevant data is processed when those functions are used.
- The app includes deletion controls, an optional PIN and optional encrypted cloud backups.

Questions about MomMirror
Is MomMirror a treatment for postpartum or postnatal depression?
No. MomMirror is a wellbeing and self-reflection app, not a treatment for postpartum (postnatal) depression. A healthcare professional can assess symptoms and discuss evidence-based care. MomMirror may be used only as a supplementary reflection tool when appropriate.
Can MomMirror diagnose depression or anxiety?
No. Check-ins and patterns are not a diagnosis or a validated clinical screening result. Share concerns with a qualified healthcare professional.
Can MomMirror help during pregnancy or family planning?
It is designed for reflection and everyday emotional support during both stages. It cannot assess pregnancy health, predict fertility or replace medical or fertility care.
Is MomMirror free?
The app is free to download and start. Full access requires an optional in-app subscription. The current price, billing period, trial and cancellation terms are shown by Apple or Google before purchase.
Does MomMirror share data with service providers?
Yes, when needed for selected functions. The privacy policy lists Firebase/Google, app stores, RevenueCat and AI processing partners, the purposes and the categories of data involved. Most app data remains local, and cloud backup is optional.
